Breaking the glass ceiling

This project was in response to some research I had studied on the way women are presented in the media and how that affects younger girls and people’s views on women. The majority of the media represents women in a poor manner, not showing or demonstrating their true abilities.

Breaking the glass ceiling is a three-part series showing the women in my life who have shown me what women are capable of.

Louise’s Story

Louise is a restaurant manager currently working in Blackpool, originally from Italy. Throughout her life, she has faced many challenges, one of the most significant being the decision to leave behind her family and friends to pursue her career. However, this was just one part of her journey.

In this video, Louise discusses how she took control of her career path, refusing to let anyone limit her ambitions. She candidly shares her fears, reflections, and the strength it took to succeed in a competitive and often male-dominated industry.

Sonya’s Story

Sonya is a Senior Governance Manager and the Owner of an award-winning business. Her journey began without any qualifications, not even GCSEs, and with teachers who suggested a future working in a slipper factory was all she could be capable of. However, Sonya had other plans, she chose to rewrite her story.

In this video, Sonya shares how determination and resilience helped her rise through the ranks of her career. She speaks openly about the challenges she faced along the way and how she refused to let setbacks or doubt define her future.

Sarah’s Story

Sarah has spent the majority of her career as Head of HR within Children's services organisation. Recently, however, she made the bold decision to launch her own Children’s services company, driven by a desire to break away from traditional hierarchies where her ideas were often overlooked or dismissed.

In this video, Sarah shares her vision for a more inclusive and empowering workplace. She opens up about the frustrations that shaped her journey and explains how she’s building a company where every voice is heard and valued, ensuring others never feel the way she once did.
